Wildlife Trading Company expands Northwest operations with Tacoma Zoos
Wildlife Trading Company [WTC], the premier retail outsource partner for cultural attractions, has been selected by Metro Parks Tacoma to operate retail services at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, and Northwest Trek Wildlife Park.
“We are pleased to have been selected by Metro Parks,” said James Ward, Executive Vice President of Wildlife Trading Company. “We plan to enhance the shopping experience to mirror the guest experience at these wonderful zoos. They are two remarkable parks with their own distinct animal collections, missions and goals; we intend to build stores that will reflect this.”
“We are excited to have Wildlife Trading Company as our partner for retail services. Their strong history of providing retail services at Zoos and Aquariums along with their understanding of retail trends makes them an excellent choice”, explained Donna Powell, Business and Administrative Manager for Point Defiance Zoo and Northwest Trek. “The culture of our organizations mesh and we look forward to the development of our gift shops. They will be a great addition to our guest service offerings.”
Guests of the both parks will notice the changes immediately as the stores have been re-merchandised with new products and new layouts. However, these initial changes are only the start. Later this year, WTC will fully renovate the shops at both Point Defiance Zoo and Northwest Trek. The renovations include increasing the size of the stores and implementing new and exciting shopping concepts.
The partnership with Metro Parks Tacoma is a nice fit as Wildlife Trading Company currently operates successful retail stores at two Northwest attractions: Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR and the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, AK.
“Our experience in Oregon and Alaska will help with the operations at Point Defiance Zoo and Northwest Trek, but our core philosophy is to bring custom store designs and merchandise to these two locations. Our passion is to handcraft each store and each guest’s experience, to be unique and stand out memorably,” explained James Ward.
