Roger Williams Park Zoo

Providence, Rhode Island

One of the oldest zoos in the country, Roger Williams Park Zoo has entertained and delighted Rhode Islanders and area residents since its opening in 1872. The Zoo features 100 exotic species in naturalistic enclosures along with extraordinary outdoor play and exploration facilities enjoyed year round by its 650,000 annual visitors.

In 2009, the Rhode Island Zoological Society selected the partnership of Wildlife Trading Company and Centerplate (formerly Boston Culinary Group) to operate the retail and food programs at the Zoo. Wildlife Trading Company completed an expansion of the main gift shop and developed two new seasonal facilities, including transforming three existing buildings into an African Village, a popular visitor hub. Wildlife Trading Company designed the overall theme, created signage and developed a traffic flow plan with our food partner to create a coordinated look that complements the Zoo's African exhibits. Wildlife Trading Company has increased per capita spending by 50%.
